October arrives in Greensboro with one last warm day and then a soaking. The National Weather Service office in Raleigh has Friday sunny and near 89 degrees with no rain in the forecast, Saturday at 75 with showers likely and a 60 percent chance of rain, and Sunday down to 66 with showers and thunderstorms at 82 percent. It is a weekend to front-load: do the outdoor things Friday and Saturday morning, and keep something indoors for Sunday.

The Carolina Classic Fair opens Friday at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds and runs through October 11. Gates are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, with ticket gates closing at 9 p.m. General admission is $10 for ages 6 and up, $3 more at the gate, and free for children 5 and under — but every admission ticket is $5 on Friday, October 2 only. Saturday also brings a $30 unlimited-ride wristband bought before noon.

Friday evening, Embodhi Yoga Studio runs its First Friday Yoga Happy Hour at 224 Commerce Place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. It is a 45-minute flow built around breath and movement, followed by a mimosa the studio calls a yimosa. $26 as a drop-in, or covered by a membership pass.

Saturday starts at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville Street, from 8 a.m. to noon. One line of the market’s own copy says 7:30 a.m. while its header, footer and FAQ all say 8, so treat the early half hour as unconfirmed and plan around 8.

At 9 a.m. Saturday the SPCA brings rescue dogs to the Downtown Greenway for a one- to two-mile walk, starting at the Freedom Cornerstone at 750 Plott Street and running until 11 a.m. You walk a dog that needs the exercise and the socializing. Register in advance.

From noon to 5 p.m., the First Saturday Stroll on Elm fills the 300 block of Elm Street with local vendors, small businesses, live music and dancing. It is the event the 60 percent rain chance is most likely to interrupt, so check before you head downtown.

ArtStock Studio Tour opens private studios across Greensboro and High Point from noon to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, free. Pick up the studio map at the CVA Gallery in the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 North Davie Street, then look for the balloons at each stop. The artist alliance behind it started the tour in 1996.

Then Sunday, when the thunderstorms arrive, the first-Sunday afternoon dance party at Yokai, 501 North Greene Street, runs 4 to 7 p.m. with Dance From Above on house music. Free, indoors, and done before the week starts.
